Square Enix has recently announced the development of a charming moogle-themed board game inspired by the beloved characters from the renowned PlayStation 2 title Final Fantasy 12. While this unveiling may not be the highly anticipated Final Fantasy 12 remake, it serves as a delightful nod to the enduring world of Ivalice and its captivating narratives.

In contrast to the widespread popularity of Final Fantasy 7, the Final Fantasy 12 subseries has taken a back seat in recent years. The previous venture into Ivalice was through Stormblood, the second expansion of the acclaimed MMO Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, which debuted in 2017. With Square Enix's latest revelation of the moogle-themed board game, fans of Final Fantasy 12 can look forward to a refreshing experience while they await potential successors to the timeless PS2 RPG.

The upcoming board game, tentatively named Final Fantasy: The Six Moogle Siblings’ Mob Hunt, will showcase adorable moogle illustrations and is set to debut at the Game Market 2024 Spring event in Tokyo, Japan on April 27-28. Attendees will have the exclusive opportunity to participate in a trial session of the game, offering a firsthand experience before its official launch.

Anticipate the Arrival of a New Final Fantasy 12 Board Game

While specifics on gameplay mechanics remain scarce, Square Enix has shared glimpses of six cards featured in the set, each with unique abilities:

  • Montblanc: [When the game ends] +2VP on victory
  • Van (a.k.a. Vaan): [Face side] This card can be moved to other fields during your own turn.
  • Morbol (a.k.a. Malboro): [When the game ends] Place a fatigue token on cards with original power of 7 or more when the game ends.
  • Hurdy: [Face side] Draw a card, and then send a card from hand to the bottom of deck.
  • Panelo (a.k.a. Penelo): [When the game ends] Remove all fatigue tokens from your own cards in this field. No more fatigue tokens can be placed in the future.
  • Pylraster: Nullify all [When the game ends] text in cards.

While Square Enix has not confirmed an English localization for the board game, previous Final Fantasy adaptations have been translated, indicating a potential Western release for The Six Moogle Siblings. In the meantime, fans can explore Love Letter, a card game by the same designer as the Final Fantasy 12 board game, Seiji Kanai, to get a taste of the excitement awaiting them in the upcoming moogle-themed board game.
