Exploring Windblown's Arsenal

Highlights

  • Windblown introduces a mix-and-match weapon system for versatile combat strategies.
  • Players can expect a variety of weapons like Kunais, Homing Arrows, and Trinket Rewards.
  • The game promises continuous updates with more biomes, weapons, and enemies in the pipeline.

Windblown is an upcoming action roguelite that prioritizes high-speed combat and fluid movement. Developed by the creators of the popular indie title Dead Cells, Windblown shares similarities with its predecessor, especially in its weaponry.

Game Rant recently delved into the world of Windblown thanks to insights from Motion Twin developer Yannick Berthier. Berthier shed light on various weapons featured in the game, from basic armaments to powerful upgrades, demonstrating their effectiveness against formidable foes such as Sentinels, mini-bosses, and a challenging enemy called The Headbanger.

Diverse Weapon Combinations in Windblown

Windblown encourages players to experiment with various weapon pairings, allowing them to seamlessly switch between two weapons to adapt their playstyle on the fly. Unlike traditional hack-and-slash games, the combat in Windblown emphasizes the synergy between dual-wielding and coordinating attacks between both weapons. This tactical approach enables players to combine melee and ranged weapons, such as blending the Heavy Blade with Ninja Stars. Notable weapons in the game include:

  • Fish Knife - a basic weapon that can be exchanged for a different starting weapon at the Ark.
  • Kunais - potent projectiles with an explosive impact.
  • Homing Arrows (available as a Gift Reward) - a passive ability that generates projectiles upon striking an enemy.
  • Various Trinket Rewards with cooldowns like the Death Orb and the Bladestorm, offering unique combat advantages.
  • Alter Attack - unleashes powerful special attacks under specific conditions.

Additionally, Motion Twin has teased additional weapons on social media, including the Telepike, Beatbolt, Ravenvlade, Shuriken, and Massive Sword.

Anticipating Future Weaponry in Windblown

Berthier revealed that each game biome features distinct monster variations. For instance, the Factory biome introduces gun-like projectiles wielded by enemies with saw blades and mounted weapons, requiring players to swiftly adapt to diverse attack patterns for success. The game also presents challenging mini-bosses and bosses reminiscent of those found in Dead Cells, offering engaging encounters that demand strategic thinking and quick reflexes.

While only a glimpse of the game's boss battles was shared, players can look forward to encountering more challenging foes across different biomes as the game evolves. With the current early access version comprising 5 biomes and 4 primary weapons, Windblown promises ongoing updates based on player feedback, hinting at expanded content including new biomes, levels, and a wider array of weapons in the full release. Given the track record of Dead Cells in continuously expanding its content offerings, players can expect a rich and evolving gameplay experience with Windblown.

Windblown is scheduled to launch in early access for PC in 2024.
