Vampire Survivors has sprung a surprise by dropping the Lab Update out of the blue. Luca Galante, also known as poncle, the developer, describes the Lab Update as a major enhancement, marking the largest free update in the history of Vampire Survivors, packed with fresh elements and enhanced animations.

In 2022, Vampire Survivors took the gaming world by storm, achieving the highest rating on Steam, securing two BAFTA awards, and selling millions of copies. Rather than resting on its laurels, the game continued to evolve with successive updates, introducing new features, characters, and stages. Recent developments have seen Vampire Survivors broadening its horizons through collaborations with other games. The most recent crossover is with Operation Guns, blending Vampire Survivors with Contra, set to launch on May 9, 2024.

Prior to the upcoming crossover, poncle surprised players with the Lab Update, another complimentary enhancement for Vampire Survivors. This update brings a new holiday-themed character named Santa Ladonna, along with a special weapon, the Santa Javelin. Additionally, the update includes two more new weapons, one being an evolution of the Santa Javelin, a fresh standard stage called the Laboratory, and a bonus stage named Carlo Cart, where players embark on a cart ride throughout the entire stage. Furthermore, seven new achievements have been added with this latest patch.

Vampire Survivors Lab Update Now Live

The developer humorously dubs the Lab Update as an AAAA upgrade due to the addition of 'hyper-realistic features' like fully-rendered running animations and interactive doors. Since its launch, Vampire Survivors has seen more than 30 updates, introducing new stages, weapons, and relics, or making subtle adjustments. One of the noteworthy updates included the introduction of a multiplayer mode to Vampire Survivors.

The Lab Update aligns with Vampire Survivors' Chaos Roadmap and is identified as version 1.10, alongside the Operation Guns collaboration. The roadmap hints at a forthcoming update in version 1.11, which could either be another complimentary upgrade or a new crossover. On social media, Larian director Swen Vincke teased the idea of a crossover between Vampire Survivors and Baldur's Gate 3, although no official confirmation has been made as of now.

Players of Vampire Survivors can delve into the new update starting today. The Lab Update is accessible for free on Xbox One, Xbox X|S, Steam, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. The PlayStation edition of Vampire Survivors is expected in the summer, including both the Lab Update and the Operation Guns collaboration.
