In the vast world of The Planet Crafter, players encounter a variety of ores like cobalt, iron, and titanium. However, with the introduction of the volcanic zone in the recent update, a new mineral has emerged as a crucial resource: obsidian.
Obsidian, a type of volcanic glass, plays a vital role in the game, especially in late-game crafting recipes. As players delve deeper into The Planet Crafter, understanding where to find this essential material becomes key.
Locating Obsidian
The prime location to unearth obsidian is within the Volcanoes biome, situated in the southeast corner of the map. This region lies south of the Wasteland and the Meteor Field, and to the east of the Waterfall.
Notably, the Volcanoes remain mostly inactive during the initial terraformation stages, with obsidian becoming more abundant once the lava flows. However, a substantial reserve of the mineral can still be found near the colossal obsidian pillars at the heart of the biome:
For efficient obsidian mining, the obsidian pillars serve as optimal spots to deploy your Ore Extractor T2 and T3.
Apart from the Volcanoes area, players will also encounter obsidian in sporadic crates and safes once they progress to a terraformation stage where the mineral becomes valuable.
Harnessing Obsidian
Obsidian plays a pivotal role in various late-game machines and recipes, including:
- Teleporter
- T2 Machine Optimizer
- Microchip - Map
- Fusion Energy Cell
- T6 Backpack
While not mandatory, these items offer convenience in different aspects of gameplay. The teleporter facilitates quick movement across the map, the machine optimizer enhances machine efficiency, and the fusion energy cell stands out as a significant use of obsidian. Crafting fusion energy cells from shipwrecks yields substantial Terra Tokens, offering a lucrative opportunity for players who can automate the process effectively.
