Developer Aspyr has shed light on the divergence between the Epic Games Store and Steam versions of Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered, following fan observations of distinct features in each. Aspyr has subsequently harmonized the two versions.
Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered was met with acclaim upon its release on February 14. The remastered trilogy retained its classic graphics while receiving upgrades such as improved textures, animations, and a plethora of gameplay enhancements. The package also includes all expansions and over 200 achievements. However, fans were puzzled by the initial discrepancies between the versions.
A Twitter user, small_medipack, highlighted the disparities in the Epic Games Store edition of Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered, noting enhancements like additional photo mode poses, enhanced textures and skyboxes in specific levels, upgraded snowflakes, and more. On February 29, Aspyr addressed the issue by updating the Epic Games Store version to match the Steam release and clarified that the disparity arose from the EGS edition being a development build containing unfinished assets.
Insights into the Next Update for Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered
Although owners of the EGS version may be disappointed by the loss of the unique enhancements, there is hope that these improvements will be integrated into Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered in a forthcoming update. Aspyr announced that the game's first update is in progress and anticipated within a few weeks, without disclosing specific details. Speculation suggests Aspyr might be concurrently working on a remaster of Tomb Raider 4.
Despite the initial confusion, Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered has garnered positive reviews for its respectful treatment of the original games while enhancing them with modern improvements. Aspyr, renowned for game porting, is also engaged in an exciting venture apart from the potential Tomb Raider 4 remaster.
Aspyr is actively developing the Star Wars: Battlefront Collection, slated for release on March 14. The collection encompasses all original content from the first two games along with new maps and characters like Jabba's Palace, Yavin 4: Arena, Asajj Ventress, and Kit Fisto. Supporting 64-player online matches, the collection will launch across major gaming platforms and PC.
