It became the first video game adaptation to secure major Emmy nominations, claiming 8 victories and an impressive 24 nominations. Pascal and Ramsey received acclaim for their breakout performances, while Nick Offerman and Storm Reid were awarded for their guest roles.
Recent rumors suggest that O'Hara, another highly acclaimed television star, is being considered to join the esteemed The Last of Us season 2 cast. Notably, Daniel Richtman, a well-known source, has indicated that the Emmy-winning actor from Schitt's Creek has been approached to portray a recurring character named Gail, set to appear in at least three episodes. Although details about the role are scarce, fans have begun speculating about the character's significance. Some have theorized that she could potentially play the role of Abby's mom, Abigail, while others have suggested she might be the Seraphite Prophet from the game's sequel, The Last of Us Part II. O'Hara's illustrious portfolio includes timeless titles such as Beetlejuice, Home Alone, and Scorcese's After Hours, showcasing her ability to excel in any role.
While specifics about The Last of Us season 2 remain scarce, it is anticipated to follow the game's narrative, given that the series is co-created by Neil Druckmann, the writer of the video game and president of Naughty Dog game development. The story of The Last of Us Part II unfolds five years after the events of the first game, with Joel and Ellie at a peaceful survivors' commune in Wyoming. Both Pascal and Ramsey will reprise their lead roles. Without divulging too much, the game predominantly centers on Ellie's perilous quest driven by a desire for revenge.
According to The Last of Us series co-creator Craig Mazin, the storyline may necessitate more than two seasons to reach its conclusion, although it will ultimately culminate in a definitive ending. In an interview with Collider, Mazin expressed, "I don’t have much narrative interest in writing a show that is designed to perpetually continue until the network finally puts it out of its misery somewhere." He continued, "The work that Naughty Dog’s done on the second game, is a lot ... probably the amount of remaining story would take us more than a season to tell."
While an official release date for The Last of Us season 2 has not been announced, Mazin has confirmed that filming is scheduled to commence on February 12th of this year.
