New Mario and Princess Peach Spirits are set to join the action in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on March 22. Over the past few months, the game has seen an influx of spirits inspired by characters from various franchises.
One of the standout features of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is its utilization of Spirits, which are power-ups and collectibles enhancing a character's abilities. Since its launch in December 2018, this Nintendo Switch exclusive created by Bandai Namco Studios and Sora Ltd. has accumulated a collection of over 1,500 Spirits, with more expected to join shortly.
The official Japanese Twitter account for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate revealed that new Spirits based on characters from Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Princess Peach: Showtime! will be featured on the Spirit Board for a five-day period starting March 22. The highly anticipated game Princess Peach: Showtime! is scheduled for release on the same day.
The introduction of the new Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Princess Peach: Showtime! Spirits in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is part of a special campaign commemorating the game's fifth anniversary, with this latest addition being the final installment in the celebration. Previously, the game welcomed Spirits from the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet series, including the Legendary Pokemon Koraidon and Miraidon from the Ninth Generation in February, followed by Ogerpon, Terapagos, and the Paldea starters Fuecoco, Quaxly, and Sprigatito.

In January, as part of the fifth anniversary celebration, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate also introduced spirits from other Nintendo franchises like The Legend of Zelda and Splatoon, alongside characters from third-party games such as Supergiant Games' Hades, Vanillaware's 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, and Konami's WBSC eBASEBALL: Power Pros.
Similar to previous releases during the special fifth anniversary celebration of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the newly announced Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Princess Peach: Showtime! Spirits will reward players with extra gold for victorious matches. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, renowned as one of the top fighting games from Nintendo, also hosted a tag-team tournament and in-game events, offering players additional experience to mark its five-year journey, alongside the introduction of new Spirits.
