A group of Super Mario Maker enthusiasts has embarked on a mission to conquer every user-created level before the impending shutdown of the Wii U's online services. With Nintendo's focus now on the Nintendo Switch, the company has been phasing out the services for its previous consoles, the Wii U and 3DS. The confirmed shutdown date will impact all games released on these systems with online play and communication, including the original Splatoon, Mario Kart 8, and Super Mario Maker.
The original Super Mario Maker was exclusively available on the Wii U, allowing players to design their own levels using elements from various games, such as the original Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, and Super Mario World. These levels could then be shared online, theoretically creating an endless array of playable content. As the online services for the Wii U approach termination, a group of Super Mario Maker enthusiasts has announced their determination to conquer every level ever uploaded to the game.
This dedicated group, known as Team 0%, comprises eight ardent Super Mario players. Their ambitious objective is to conquer every level in Super Mario Maker 1 and 2. Although they initiated their mission in October, the confirmation of the Wii U's impending shutdown has set a deadline for Team 0%. Since the original Super Mario Maker disabled its level upload feature in 2020, the team has a precise count of the remaining levels yet to be completed, which totals over 3000.
The team's progress is meticulously documented on their official Discord server and Twitter account. As of January 26, 2024, there are 3324 levels left to conquer in Super Mario Maker, with the team anticipating their completion by February 23, 2024. With the Wii U and 3DS scheduled to sunset on April 8, 2024, the team has less than 75 days to achieve their goal.
Current Progress from Team 0% (as of January 26, 2024):
- Super Mario Maker Levels remaining: 3,324
- Days remaining: 74
- Projected completion date: February 23rd 2024

The joy of Super Mario Maker and its sequel lies in the ability for players to create and share their own levels with others. Despite the inability to upload new creations on the Wii U version, players can still download their favorite levels and enjoy them offline even after the shutdown. Fans are rooting for Team 0% to accomplish their mission before the Wii U's online services are discontinued.
