Highlights

  • Fallout 76 achieves its peak player count on Steam on April 14.
  • The PC player base of the game has surged by over 360% following the premiere of Amazon's Fallout TV series.
  • Other titles in the Fallout series are also experiencing increased player activity, aided by a current franchise-wide sale.

Fallout 76 has reached a new milestone by hitting its highest-ever concurrent player count on Steam. This remarkable feat comes nearly six years after the game's controversial debut.

The recent surge in player numbers can be attributed to Amazon's Fallout TV series, which premiered on April 10. Since then, all games in the franchise have seen a resurgence in popularity.

Significant Rise in Fallout 76's Steam Player Base Since Amazon TV Show Premiere

Among all Fallout titles, Fallout 76 has notably benefited the most from this trend. The game quickly gained traction on Xbox following the show's release and has now set a new record with 39,455 concurrent players on Steam as of April 14, based on data from SteamDB. This marks a remarkable 363% increase compared to just four days earlier, before the show premiered.

Over the second weekend of April, tens of thousands of players joined Fallout 76, leading to a nearly 20% boost in the game's player count on Steam. The last time the game saw over 20,000 simultaneous players on Steam was in May 2020. Despite not experiencing significant spikes in recent years, Fallout 76 maintained a solid player base, usually peaking at around 10,000 daily concurrent players, until this recent resurgence.

The entire Fallout series is currently witnessing a surge in PC players; Fallout 3 and New Vegas have more players now than since 2016, along with Fallout 4. Even the older isometric titles, including the original 1997 game and Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel, are experiencing their highest player counts in nine years. The longevity of this trend remains uncertain, but Fallout 76 is well-positioned to sustain its momentum, being the only title in the series consistently receiving updates that expand its already extensive content.

Fallout 76 Available at Its Lowest Price Ever

The recent surge in popularity has been further fueled by a current sale on the Fallout series, where Bethesda has slashed prices by 80%. As a result, Fallout 76 is now priced at a record low of $7.99 on Steam. PlayStation and Xbox players can also purchase the game at the same discounted price. The franchise-wide sale is scheduled to end on April 19.
