In April 2023, Eric 'ConcernedApe' Barone had announced the forthcoming major update for his popular farming simulation game. Over the next year, the developer from Seattle hinted at various features to be included in the 1.6 update, such as new items, NPC dialogues, crafting recipes, and mini festivals.

Faster Pet Movement in Stardew Valley

Recently, Barone took to Twitter on March 14 to share another addition to the list of upcoming changes. He mentioned that the next update will reduce the time required for pets to move out of the way. Previously, players had to wait 1.5 seconds after bumping into their pets before the animals would move and allow passage. With the 1.6 update, this time will be cut in half.

Additional Pet Features in Stardew Valley Update 1.6

While this adjustment may seem minor, it was met with enthusiastic approval from fans. Barone's announcement garnered over 34,000 likes and nearly 2,000 retweets shortly after being posted. Apart from this change, the upcoming patch will also introduce pet hats, offering players a new way to interact with their furry friends. Fans have already expressed excitement over the opportunity to accessorize their pets, especially considering the current limited options for pet engagement.

The release of Stardew Valley update 1.6 is planned for next Tuesday, March 19. Initially, the patch will be available on PC, with console and mobile versions following shortly afterward, as stated by ConcernedApe. Historically, the console and mobile releases of updates have taken several months following the PC launch.

Other confirmed changes in the upcoming update include new endgame quests for the Joja storyline, additional seasonal outfits, and an expansion of the game's skill system, which currently consists of five ability categories. Barone also hinted at features aimed at modders to streamline the creation of custom content for Stardew Valley.
