Star Wars:Rogue Squadron may have a chance at redemption. Patty Jenkins has revealed that she is still deeply involved in the Star Wars endeavor, injecting fresh optimism into the project's future.

Back in late 2020, the announcement of Star Wars: Rogue Squadron brought excitement for a 2023 release. However, the journey of Star Wars: Rogue Squadron hit roadblocks, eventually leading to its cancellation. Jenkins, the renowned filmmaker and writer, was initially at the helm of this Lucasfilm venture. Unfortunately, due to scheduling clashes and industry strikes, the project was shelved.

Recently, during an episode of the Talking Pictures podcast, Ben Mankiewicz engaged in a revealing dialogue with Jenkins. The conversation delved into Jenkins' impressive career and her experiences as a female director in Hollywood. Among various topics, Jenkins addressed the swirling rumors around a potential Star Wars script. She emphatically confirmed her active participation in shaping Rogue Squadron, stating, "I am currently working on a draft of Star Wars."

Jenkins had initially paused her work on the Star Wars project due to time conflicts, prioritizing her commitment to Wonder Woman 3. However, when plans for Wonder Woman 3 dissolved, Jenkins found herself back at Lucasfilm to complete her task. Reflecting on this series of events, Jenkins shared, "When I left Star Wars for Wonder Woman 3, and I began that work, we discussed the possibility of my return to Star Wars after Wonder Woman 3. We even initiated an agreement for it, but I was under the impression I would be solely focused on Wonder Woman 3. When Wonder Woman 3 was no longer on the table, Lucasfilm and I decided to finalize our arrangement. We sealed the deal just as the industry strike commenced, and now I am tasked with delivering a draft for Star Wars. The future is uncertain."

Regarding the vision for Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Jenkins expressed her longstanding ambition of crafting a tale centered around fighter pilots, a dream that is now materializing. She highlighted Star Wars as the perfect canvas to actualize this vision, underscoring how the essence of fighter pilots and the timeless battle between good and evil seamlessly blend in the Star Wars realm. Jenkins passionately articulated that bringing this project to fruition would be a realization of a cherished aspiration, given the vast storytelling opportunities it presents.

Although Rogue Squadron has not yet received an official green light, Jenkins is actively toiling on the project's script. Acknowledging the inherent challenges, Jenkins described it as a formidable undertaking for both herself and Lucasfilm. She underscored the collaborative nature of their efforts, emphasizing their joint commitment to refining the script until both parties are content with the outcome of the Star Wars venture.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is reportedly in the works at Lucasfilm.
