Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection: What's Missing?

Highlights

  • Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection won't feature crossplay but will support cross-generation multiplayer.
  • New maps and heroes enhance the Battlefront Classic Collection, offering fans more gameplay options.
  • Confirmation from Aspyr addresses concerns about uncredited content in Battlefront Classic Collection.

An Aspyr representative has disclosed that the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection will be devoid of crossplay upon its release on March 14. Despite the absence of any mention of this feature during the initial reveal of Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection, the recent confirmation dashes the hopes of players wanting to unite across different platforms for this nostalgic gaming experience.

The unveiling of Battlefront Classic Collection on February 21 sparked enthusiasm among gamers who fondly remember the classic titles on PlayStation 2 and Xbox. This collection combines all the content from Battlefront and Battlefront 2 along with new maps and heroes. Although supporting epic 64-player multiplayer showdowns, the game seems to lack a widely expected feature at launch.

Responding to a query from a fan, posted on Reddit by ItsMaverick1357, an Aspyr insider disclosed that players on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC platforms won't be able to join forces. However, the game will facilitate cross-generation multiplayer, allowing interaction between PS4 and PS5 or Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S users. While the possibility of a post-launch update introducing crossplay remains, no hints were dropped by the employee.

Is Crossplay Available in Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection?

  • Crossplay is absent, but cross-generation multiplayer is supported.

Though disappointing for friends spread across different platforms, Battlefront Classic Collection is anticipated to attract a vibrant player community on all platforms at launch, despite the absence of crossplay. Players can also anticipate exploring additional content like the new Jabba's Palace map for the original Battlefront, alongside four maps and two new heroes for Battlefront 2: Kit Fisto and Asajj Ventress, familiar characters to Star Wars enthusiasts.

Besides the crossplay limitation, a recent controversy arose when a fan observed that the two new heroes in Battlefront Classic Collection seemed to be sourced from a fan-made mod. Aspyr clarified that the characters seen in the trailer were placeholders mistakenly showing versions not present in the final game, ensuring that the game contains no uncredited content.

The game's download size was recently revealed on Nintendo's eShop, indicating a size of 25.4 GB. Players on other platforms await similar announcements regarding their download sizes.
