STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl has unveiled remarkable new screenshots, showcasing various environments and the recently overhauled heads-up display (HUD). The latest glimpse into the game quietly emerged after GSC Game World confirmed that STALKER 2 is still on track for an early 2024 release.

The original STALKER trilogy gained a devoted following for its distinctive combination of survival, horror, open-world exploration, and role-playing aspects. Despite the cancellation of the initial sequel, development resumed around 2018, ultimately leading to the confirmation of STALKER 2 as a day-one Xbox Game Pass offering.

Although an official release date is pending, GSC recently updated its Epic Games Store page with four new screenshots. Discovered by Twitter user Stalker2News, the images feature captivating environments, including a post-apocalyptic farm with a windmill and a desolate boathouse. One screenshot depicts a confrontation with Zone members, while another portrays a clash with mutated and hostile fauna.

Redesigned HUD

While some of the recently surfaced screenshots were previously shared by the STALKER 2 developer in 2023, the new images stand out for showcasing an overhauled HUD. Notably, GSC has revised the heads-up display to present a more stylized interface. The bottom-left corner now includes indicators for hunger, sleep, and overencumbrance, along with a permanent radiation meter. Based on past games, these HUD elements are likely to be user-toggleable.

Enhanced UI

Additionally, the compass at the top of the screen appears more intricate than in previous STALKER 2 screenshots. It now features smaller angle increments and color-coded icons. For instance, the player's current objective is marked in a dark shade of orange, custom landmarks in green, and enemy indicators in bright red, while other icons are white.

Despite the absence of a release date following the game's 2024 delay, GSC's recent affirmation of its aim for a first-quarter launch suggests that March 2024 is a plausible window for its debut.
