Speculation Arises: A Possible New SOCOM Title Emerges

Highlights

  • A mention of 'SOCOM 111' was found in a late actor's resume, fueling speculation about a new SOCOM installment.
  • Contrary to expectations, the actor listed for 'SOCOM 111' isn't credited in 'SOCOM 3', raising doubts about the legitimacy of the leak.
  • Even if 'SOCOM 111' was once in the works, there is uncertainty surrounding its current status and development progress.

Rumors are swirling about a potential addition to the SOCOM series, sparked by the discovery of a reference to a new project in the resume of a deceased actor. However, the credibility of this find is questionable, given the actor's passing some time ago.

The most recent installment in the renowned series of tactical shooters, SOCOM 4 US Navy SEALs, was released as a PS3 exclusive back in April 2011. Sony made the decision to close down Zipper Interactive, its Redmond-based subsidiary responsible for the majority of the franchise, including the original 2002 release, less than a year later.

'SOCOM 111' Hint Uncovered in Deceased Actor's Resume

Despite the long dormancy of the series, a potential new chapter has come to light following the revelation of a mention in the online resume of the late David Veach. Shared by Reddit user KekanKok, the resume indicates that Veach participated in motion capture work for a Sony project named SOCOM 111. While this could imply the development of a new game, it is also plausible that this is a typo, with the resume possibly referring to SOCOM 3, occasionally styled as SOCOM III by Sony's marketing.

Interestingly, Veach's name is not included in the credits for SOCOM 3 among the 558 listed individuals. If indeed SOCOM 111 and the mentioned game are the same entity, one would anticipate Veach receiving credit for his role, especially since his resume indicates he was a 'co-star' in the project. Moreover, even if SOCOM 111 was intended to be a new installment, its current development status is uncertain. Motion capture work typically occurs early in a project, suggesting that Veach's involvement in SOCOM 111 would have taken place years ago, given his passing in January 2022.

With modern AAA game development cycles spanning around five years, a project that underwent motion capture in 2021 or earlier could potentially be announced by April 2024. However, there is no recent indication of Sony reviving the SOCOM franchise. Game Rant's search for a cached version of Veach's CV to determine the timing of the SOCOM 111 mention was unsuccessful, leaving the project's timeline shrouded in mystery.

Given the circumstances surrounding this leak, interpreting it as a definite sign of a new SOCOM game's arrival would be overly optimistic. While there have been whispers of a PS5-exclusive SOCOM game previously, such rumors faded away in late 2020.
