Ubisoft has unveiled a roadmap for the first year of Skull and Bones, providing players with insights into the endgame and long-term content expectations. The highly anticipated pirate game finally received a launch date during the Game Awards 2023 ceremony and is set to premiere on February 13 for Ubisoft+ subscribers and on February 16 for others.

Initially revealed at E3 2017 with an anticipated fall 2018 release, Skull and Bones drew inspiration from the ship battles in Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. However, the game experienced multiple delays due to a challenging development cycle, including project reboots and the departure of three creative directors, including Elisabeth Pellen, who left the Ubisoft Singapore team last September. Given the numerous setbacks, fans have high expectations for the game's launch to ensure its long-term success.

With less than a month until the release, Ubisoft has shared a YouTube trailer outlining the content roadmap for the game's first year. Dubbed Rise of the Kingpins, the inaugural year will comprise four 12-week seasons. During each season, players will partake in various activities such as Legendary Heists, world events, and takeover opportunities to enhance their power and meticulously customize their ships in Skull and Bones to challenge a formidable Pirate Lord and emerge victorious. Ubisoft has promised a range of rewards each season, including new ships, weapons, and cosmetics.

Ubisoft also pledges a more perilous endgame with heightened stakes, involving players becoming fierce adversaries of once-allied Kingpins. Additionally, players can form groups of three to compete on leaderboards for rewards, which will reset at the start of each season. Throughout the game's first year, Skull and Bones will feature several time-limited events, such as a Dragon Boat race in the second season, requiring player collaboration in community events to secure rewards. Ubisoft also plans to introduce various quality-of-life improvements, with two major enhancements scheduled for release during the third and fourth seasons.
