Highlights

  • Skull and Bones early access starts on February 13.
  • Access is available for those with the game's premium edition, pre-ordered base version, or through Ubisoft+ Premium membership.
  • Skull and Bones officially launches for PC and current-gen consoles on February 16.

Prepare to embark on the high seas as Skull and Bones offers early access to select gamers, bypassing the requirement to pre-order or acquire its premium edition. Commencing on February 13, players can delve into the world of piracy three days before the official release of Skull and Bones.

The journey to the release of Ubisoft Singapore's live-service pirate game has been tumultuous, spanning over a decade since its inception in 2013. Following 11 years, three creative directors, and seven delays, Skull and Bones is finally poised to make its debut on PC and current-generation consoles on February 16.

Similar to many AAA titles, early access to Skull and Bones is available to those who purchase the premium edition priced at $89.99, or pre-order any version of the game. However, in a departure from the norm, the early access period can also be accessed through a subscription. By investing $17.99 in the revamped Ubisoft+ Premium membership, players can indulge in the Digital Premium edition of the game, securing automatic entry into the three-day early access period.

Accessing Early Play of Skull and Bones

From February 13 to February 15

  • Obtain a Ubisoft+ Premium subscription ($17.99).
    • Exclusive to PC, Xbox, and Amazon Luna.
  • Purchase the Digital Premium edition ($89.99) of the game.
  • Pre-order the base version ($69.99) of the game by February 12.

Ubisoft+ Premium is currently accessible to Xbox, PC, and Amazon Luna users. Although Ubisoft offers a PlayStation subscription service bundled with PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium, access is limited to classic releases, leaving PlayStation owners without an affordable means to experience Skull and Bones early. For PlayStation gamers opting for early access through a pre-order, they must ensure the validity of purchases made before 2024, as Sony has automatically refunded certain Skull and Bones pre-orders in early 2023, coinciding with the game's sixth delay.

Skull and Bones has been available for preload since February 11 or 12, depending on the region. With a file size of approximately 50GB across all platforms, downloading the full game should take just a few hours with a decent connection speed of around 40 megabits per second.

The imminent opportunity to experience early play of Skull and Bones follows the game's recent open beta period, which was reportedly marred by connectivity issues. However, such challenges are common in public betas, designed to stress-test servers. The extent of these issues during the upcoming early access period remains to be seen.
