Despite its substantial power and impressive game titles, the PS Vita's sales paled in comparison to the PSP. While this has been the case thus far, a credible source has hinted at the possibility of a new handheld gaming system from Sony.

A prominent YouTuber, Moore's Law is Dead, unveiled a video claiming that Sony is actively developing a new handheld gaming system. According to the video, PlayStation has already engaged AMD to manufacture the device. However, the project is still in its nascent stages and may not materialize. There are speculations that the device could potentially run PS4 games and possibly even PS5 games with a special patch, resembling the functionality of a Steam Deck rather than the PSP or PS Vita, thereby eliminating the need for Sony to produce games exclusively for the new device.

Reports of New Sony Handheld in the Works

Sony has already experimented with enabling PlayStation gamers to play PS4 and PS5 games on a handheld through streaming. Although the PlayStation Portal provides some portability for PlayStation gamers to access their PS4 and PS5 library, it has evident limitations that a dedicated handheld, akin to the Steam Deck, could address.

While some may be disheartened by the potential absence of exclusive games on the new Sony handheld, it aligns with recent industry trends. Essentially, it would serve as PlayStation's response to the Nintendo Switch and Valve's Steam Deck.
