This reimagined version takes cues from the essence of the Pokemon universe's Kalos region, introducing a shift in the Pokemon's elemental attributes.

Crafting fan-made regional variations for Pokemon has become a popular creative pursuit among numerous fans of the franchise. With the continuous introduction of new forms and evolutionary branches for Pokemon in the Pokemon games, players have seized the opportunity to devise their own interpretations, breathing new life into Pokemon that may have been overlooked by the official game developers. Despite periodic adjustments made to existing Pokemon in each new mainline game release, the vast array of Pokemon yet to receive such treatment is where fans' creativity shines through, filling the void with their imaginative designs.

This narrative unfolds with the work of Pokemon enthusiast Just-Drawing-Mons, who recently unveiled a unique concept for a regional form. In this instance, the artist envisioned a Kalos-inspired transformation for Serperior. Departing from its conventional Grass-type classification, the Pokemon now boasts a dual Grass/Steel typing. While the overall essence of the Pokemon's design remains recognizable, subtle alterations have been introduced, such as a muted greenish-gray color palette with delicate yellow accents. The Pokemon now sports a more reptilian gaze characterized by narrow vertical pupils, adorns a ponytail atop its head, and features a tail culminating in a rapier-like sword motif.

Although Just-Drawing-Mons did not disclose the rationale behind their design choices, the incorporation of the rapier-inspired tail likely pays homage to the essence of Kalos itself. As per Pokemon series developer Junichi Masuda, Kalos draws inspiration from the cultural tapestry of France. While the rapier's historical origins lie in Spain, it gained prominence as a weapon synonymous with 18th-century France, primarily utilized in duels and prevalent in the sport of fencing.

Serperior's Ode to French Aesthetics

Beyond its Kalosian roots, a Serperior regional variant naturally aligns with the prevailing French influences already intertwined with its fundamental design. Renowned illustrator Ken Sugimori previously indicated that the Pokemon's original concept and evolutionary lineage are steeped in 'western culture,' particularly drawing from the French-themed manga Rose of Versailles.

Various elements of the Pokemon's aesthetics have further fueled speculation among fans regarding its French-inspired origins, including the fleur-de-lis-esque motif adorning the creature's chest. Should an official Kalos regional form for Serperior be introduced in the games, it is highly probable that it would deepen its connection to French aesthetics, akin to the reimagined design envisioned by Just-Drawing-Mons. Nevertheless, Game Freak might opt to diverge from the French thematic elements and craft a regional variant from a different cultural backdrop to accentuate the distinctiveness between the two iterations.
