Highlights

  • Atlus is reportedly working on a remake of Persona 1, in addition to the recently leaked Persona 2 and 4 remakes.
  • A well-known insider has also teased three more unannounced Shin Megami Tensei projects: a Netflix-exclusive game, an SMT5-related spin-off, and a remaster of a PS2 SMT RPG.
  • Since Nocturne was already remastered in 2021, SMT: Digital Devil Survivor is the likeliest candidate for another such rerelease.

A trusted source from within Atlus has revealed that the original Persona game is being remade. Additionally, the insider has hinted at the existence of three other unrevealed projects from the developer of Persona, including an enigmatic Netflix venture.

On February 6, Atlus insider Midori made a Twitter announcement claiming that the studio, which is owned by Sega, is currently working on remakes of Persona 2 and Persona 4. Responding to a follower's question, the leaker affirmed that both projects are in progress at Atlus.

A day later, Midori followed up with another post, indicating that the original Persona game is also set to undergo a remake, suggesting that Atlus is currently working on three reimaginings of the older entries from the popular series. The insider explained that not all of these games will be remade in the style of Persona 3 Reload. According to the insider, only Persona 4 will receive the Reload treatment, as Persona 1 and the Persona 2 duology lack many later series staples, such as time management and social links, making them unsuitable for Reload-style remakes without a complete redesign.

When asked about the status of the Shin Megami Tensei series, which gave rise to Persona, Midori claimed that Atlus is currently developing an SMT game for Netflix, without specifying whether the title in question is a reissue or an original project. The insider also mentioned that a remaster of a PS2-era SMT entry is in the works. Sony's sixth-generation console has three mainline games that fit this description, but one of them has already been remastered in 2021, in the form of the critically acclaimed SMT3 Nocturne HD. This leaves Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga and its sequel as potential reissue candidates. Chronologically, Atlus would likely prioritize remastering the former before the latter.
