The Clash game mode, a recent addition to Overwatch 2 in Season 10, has caused a stir with the arrival of the Hanaoka map. Unfortunately, this led to the temporary removal of the iconic Hanamura map due to a critical issue that rendered it unplayable. Although Hanamura is not part of the regular Quick Play or Competitive playlists, it has been a staple in the game since its inception, accessible through the Arcade mode or custom games.

Overwatch 2's Season 10 is a significant one, featuring the introduction of a new Damage hero named Venture, as well as a range of enticing skins inspired by the Mirrorwatch event. The season also presents players with the opportunity to explore the Clash game mode for a limited time until April 29th. This mode, reminiscent of the original Assault mode, offers two win conditions based on point capture for both teams.

Initial feedback on Overwatch 2's latest game mode, Clash, has been favorable. However, the launch of the mode's sole map, Hanaoka, coincided with the unexpected disabling of the beloved Hanamura map set in Japan. A video shared by user Twurti highlighted severe issues with Hanamura's map geometry and textures beyond the initial control point gate, rendering the map unplayable. Speculation arose among fans regarding the possible mishandling of assets for the new Hanaoka map, visually similar to Hanamura, but an official response clarified the situation.

Ryan Smith, Lead Level Designer for Overwatch 2, explained that Hanamura's removal was due to an unrelated lighting problem on the map. Concerns arose over players comparing the old Hanamura to the new Hanaoka, prompting the decision to temporarily disable Hanamura. The cause of some players encountering the heavily bugged version of the map before its removal remains unclear.

Overwatch 2's Clash Mode: What Lies Ahead

Fans are eager for Hanamura's return to the custom map pool, given its sentimental value to many players. While the Clash mode currently features only one map, more are expected to be added upon its official release, providing players with fresh environments to enjoy.
