Dungeons and Dragons has just announced the release dates for six new books planned in the coming year. These six new Dungeons and Dragons books will include the revised Player’s Handbook, Dungeon Master’s Guide, and Monster Manual, which are part of the One D&D project.

In 2022, Dungeons and Dragons introduced One D&D as part of the 10-year anniversary celebration of the evergreen revisions to 5th Edition, coinciding with Dungeons and Dragons’ 50th birthday. Over the following months, Wizards of the Coast has released several D&D playtests, with a new Player’s Handbook, Dungeon Master’s Guide, and Monster Manual initially planned for a 2024 release.

Now, Dungeons and Dragons has provided concrete dates for these three core rule books. According to a recent D&D blog post, the new Player’s Handbook will be released on September 17, with the Dungeon Master’s Guide scheduled for November 12. The new Monster Manual won’t be available this year but is expected on February 18, 2025. Additionally, fans can anticipate Vecna: Eve of Ruin and Quests from the Infinite Staircase on May 21 and July 16, respectively, with The Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons: 1970-1977 coming out on June 18, between the two upcoming adventure books.

Upcoming Dungeons and Dragons Book Releases

  • Vecna: Eve of Ruin – May 21
  • The Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons: 1970-1977 – June 18
  • Quests from the Infinite Staircase – July 16
  • 2024 Player's Handbook – September 17
  • 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide – November 12
  • 2025 Monster Manual – February 18, 2025

The revised core rule books will consolidate all the information gathered from the numerous One D&D playtests and transform them into a new tabletop experience. Although not a completely new edition, the 2024-2025 version will modernize the rules to suit a contemporary audience and is poised to be a more user-friendly iteration of Dungeons and Dragons. The updated rules will be compatible with the original 5th Edition, allowing players who prefer the old books to still use them alongside future products.

Vecna: Eve of Ruin is a new high-level adventure path that centers on the eponymous villain. Following its popularity from appearing in Stranger Things, Dungeons and Dragons is placing the iconic D&D villain at the forefront of the multiversal plot to save existence. Similarly, Quests from the Infinite Staircase is steeped in classic Dungeons and Dragons, featuring six retro D&D adventures revised for 5th Edition.

While this news is thrilling, Dungeons and Dragons has recently faced significant scrutiny. Recent negative coverage surrounding Hasbro’s layoffs and AI art came less than a year after the controversy regarding its original intentions to alter the D&D Open Gaming License. These events have led some fans to lose faith in Wizards of the Coast, so hopefully, these new books could mark the first step for Dungeons and Dragons in winning back these fans.
