Recent leaks have surfaced, hinting at the possibility of a sequel to the well-received game, Lords of the Fallen. These leaks have also shed light on other upcoming projects from the publisher of Lords of the Fallen, CI Games.

The original Lords of the Fallen game, released in 2014, was among the first to adopt the challenging combat and boss encounters characteristic of the 'Soulsborne' genre. While this level of difficulty may not appeal to all players, it has attracted a dedicated following due to its ultimately rewarding gameplay loop. Prior to Lords of the Fallen, FromSoftware was the primary proponent of this style of gameplay. Since then, there has been a notable increase in the number of 'Soulslike' games being released, with the well-received Lies of P being a notable example. Another successful addition to the genre was the revamped Lords of the Fallen, developed by the new team at Hexworks.

According to recent trademark filings by CI Games, it appears that Hexworks may be developing a sequel to Lords of the Fallen. The unannounced project is currently known as “Project III,” and the anticipated title is likely to be Death of the Fallen. This rumored sequel is reportedly slated for a 2026 release and is expected to be powered by Unreal Engine 5. It is speculated that Death of the Fallen will be available on PC and the latest generation of consoles.

Since the introduction of Demon’s Souls by FromSoftware in 2009, 'Soulslike' games have amassed a sizable following. Two of their subsequent games, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Elden Ring, were both highly acclaimed and received Game of the Year awards in 2019 and 2022, respectively. Elden Ring even surpassed its competition in 2022, outshining God of War: Ragnarok and garnering numerous accolades. With eagerly anticipated indie titles such as Phantom Blade Zero and Black Myth: Wukong on the horizon, the genre continues to thrive.

While Deck13 developed an intriguing and ambitious game with the original Lords of the Fallen, the subsequent iteration by Hexworks made significant improvements and established itself as a commendable addition to the growing roster of 'Soulslike' games. The upcoming installment in Hexworks’ revamped series not only aims to satisfy existing fans but also attract a broader audience of genre enthusiasts.
