Controversy Surrounds Latest Call of Duty Skin with Double XP Bonuses

Highlights

  • The latest Killer Serial Creep Party Pack in MW3 and Warzone introduces double XP rewards for players with matching party skins.
  • Critics are concerned about the pay-to-win nature of the skin, drawing parallels to previous contentious DMZ bundles that provided gameplay advantages for money.
  • Future Call of Duty bundles may follow a similar trend, potentially introducing more skins with gameplay-enhancing perks.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone players now have access to the Killer Serial Creep Party Pack, featuring an operator skin that grants double XP bonuses when two or more party members equip the same skin. This new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 skin has sparked discussions around its 'pay-to-win' implications, echoing past controversial strategies.

Last year, Modern Warfare 2 introduced skin bundles, like the DMZ packs, that offered pay-to-win advantages such as starting with a free medium backpack in every match or gaining an extra operator slot permanently. While the move wasn't unexpected from Activision, it faced backlash for providing significant gameplay advantages to those willing to spend extra on a game already priced at a premium. Despite criticism, the Call of Duty franchise seems committed to this approach, albeit with less direct impact on other players.

For 1600 CoD Points, players can unlock the Killer Serial Creep Party Pack and receive the Rave skin with a 'Party Skin Bonus.' Equipping two or more skins from the Killer series within the same party triggers double XP and weapon XP boosts, with more Killer skins planned for future release. Additionally, having three or more party members with Killer skins activates a double battle pass XP boost. While these bonuses are not strictly 'pay-to-win' like the DMZ bundles but more of a 'pay-to-skip' model, they do expedite the unlocking of powerful battle pass weapons upon release.

Latest Call of Duty Skin Offers Double XP Benefits

During the Season 3 update showcase of Modern Warfare 3 in early April, Activision unveiled another Killer bundle, the Killer Circus Freak Party Pack, which also provides XP benefits. Two additional bundles, Killer: Porcelain and Killer: Bone Collector, were announced as well.

With Call of Duty featuring an extensive XP progression system, the Killer skins could become essential for players during non-double XP events, especially for those who prefer group play.

On a lighter note, a recent Call of Duty addition lets players embody a spiky-haired dinosaur character. While such whimsical bundles might attract criticism, they are purely cosmetic and do not impact gameplay.
