Mortal Kombat 2 producer Todd Garner has given fans a sneak peek at one of the new cast members portraying a beloved character from the video game series.

Following the release of the first Mortal Kombat film in 2021, the decision to proceed with a sequel was announced in July 2022 by Warner Bros. With the film set for a theatrical release, work on the sequel has gained momentum after the resolution of the SAG-AFTRA strikes and the revival of the entertainment industry.

Sharing the latest behind-the-scenes glimpse on social media, producer Garner posted a low-resolution image featuring a close-up of actress Tati Gabrielle, offering fans the first official look at her portrayal of Jade, a character from the Mortal Kombat video game series. The upcoming sequel aims to surpass the original Mortal Kombat film, with the cast additions playing a crucial role in achieving this goal. The response to the reveal was overwhelmingly positive, with fans expressing their excitement for the casting choice and eagerly awaiting a full costume reveal.

Jade has been a long-standing favorite among fans and a highly sought-after character, as evidenced by the demand for her inclusion in the latest installment of the Mortal Kombat game franchise, acknowledged by Ed Boon. Her presence, along with the addition of another beloved character, Johnny Cage, portrayed by The Boys star Karl Urban, adds to the anticipation surrounding the sequel. These talented newcomers, including Adeline Rudolph, join an already impressive cast, which features Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Tadanobu Asano, Mehcad Brooks, Ludi Lin, Chin Han, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada reprising their roles from the first film.

As the sequel endeavors to avoid the pitfalls of Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, which led to a lengthy hiatus and a reboot, the pressure is on for Mortal Kombat 2 to exceed expectations. The audience will ultimately determine if the exceptional casting and swift production are indicative of a promising outcome.

Mortal Kombat 2 is currently in production.
