Recent leaks have hinted at the potential arrival of classic LucasArts point-and-click adventure games such as Grim Fandango, Full Throttle, and Day of the Tentacle on the PlayStation 5. Although LucasArts is primarily recognized for its assortment of Star Wars video games, the studio played a significant role in pioneering story-driven and puzzle-based PC adventure games during the 1990s.

From the mysterious allure of Grim Fandango, inspired by Casablanca, to the satirical escapade of Sam and Max: Hit the Road, LucasArts’ classic point-and-click titles are still held dear for their clever narratives, perplexing puzzles, and unforgettable characters.

Some standout titles in LucasArts’ 90s catalog include Day of the Tentacle, a sequel to the 1987 graphic adventure game Maniac Mansion, featuring three playable protagonists embarking on a time-traveling mission to thwart the plans of an evil mutant tentacle. In 1995, Full Throttle placed players in the role of biker gang leader Ben, featuring an all-star voice cast including Roy Conrad, Mark Hamill, and Kath Soucie. Lastly, Grim Fandango utilized cutting-edge 3D graphics to narrate the tale of Manny Calavera, a professional Grim Reaper entangled in a supernatural conspiracy in the land of the dead.

The recent leak, as reported by PlayStation Lifestyle, suggests that Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango, and Full Throttle were listed for the PS5 on the Taiwan ratings board, also shared by Gematsu on Twitter. While the leak also mentions the PlayStation 4, remastered versions of these games are already available on that console.

Possibility of Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango, And Full Throttle on PS5

All three of these classic LucasArts titles have previously undergone remastering and re-releases on various consoles for newer generations to relish, either individually or as part of collections like the Double Fine Humble Bundle in 2020. In 2016, Day of the Tentacle received updated graphics, approximately a year after Grim Fandango was reintroduced with its own remaster. Similarly, Full Throttle Remastered made its debut in 2017, with all three remastered titles featuring bonus content such as developer’s commentary and the ability to switch between modern and original visuals at the touch of a button.

Having new, native versions of Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango, and Full Throttle for the PlayStation 5 would indeed be an intriguing development. Notably, the previous re-releases were developed by Double Fine, a studio comprising the original talent from LucasArts, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2019. While this acquisition may have posed challenges for bringing these classic games to PlayStation hardware previously, recent reports indicate that Xbox is planning to make some of its first-party exclusives available on its long-time competitor's platform. If the leaked listing from the Taiwan ratings board holds true, these classic LucasArts games could potentially be part of this arrangement.
