Doom is making its way to a surprising new platform – a range of lawn mowers manufactured by Husqvarna. This unexpected update, scheduled for release in the spring, adds to the ever-growing list of unconventional devices capable of running Doom, a game that has seen numerous adaptations over the years.

Originally introduced in 1993, Doom, developed by id Software, became widely popular. The release of its full source code four years later led to various unconventional Doom ports on devices such as handheld consoles, cameras, and even refrigerators.

Join the Doom Lawn Mower Port Craze

The next addition to the list of Doom-compatible devices is a lawn mower, specifically the NERA series of robotic lawn mowers from Husqvarna Automower. Interested users can now register for the Doom port on Husqvarna's website to be able to play the game when it launches on April 9. Registration will remain open until August 26.

This unique collaboration is part of a time-limited promotion; the game will be automatically removed from all NERA devices through an over-the-air update on September 9. This temporary offering indicates a short-term agreement between Husqvarna and ZeniMax Media, excluding the U.S. from the 37 countries covered by the promotion.

With a five-month window, players have ample time to experience Doom on a lawn mower. Although not designed for gaming, Husqvarna has tailored the gameplay for its devices; players will use the Start button for movement and the jog wheel for turning, shooting, and confirmation – making gaming on a robotic lawn mower surprisingly intuitive.
