LawBreakers, the renowned hero-focused first-person shooter, is experiencing a revival years after its initial launch, thanks to a dedicated group of fans. Despite its swift decline post-launch, LawBreakers managed to cultivate a small but loyal player base, prompting fans to unite and resurrect the action-packed game.

LawBreakers made its debut in 2017 on PC and PlayStation 4, offering a varied roster of characters, exciting movement mechanics, and heart-pounding FPS gameplay. However, the game failed to sustain interest and was deemed defunct just a year later in 2018. Positioned as a thrilling FPS arena experience, LawBreakers struggled in a saturated market, overshadowed by Blizzard's dominant Overwatch. Despite positive feedback, LawBreakers faltered commercially and was swiftly discontinued.

Nonetheless, as reported by GameInformer, fans are spearheading the resurgence of LawBreakers. Through the RELB Project, fans are leveraging 'fake' servers utilized by the original game client to keep LawBreakers alive. This initiative has fueled the growth of the player community, granting access to a once-inaccessible game. The RELB Project, initiated in 2020, can be accessed via a launcher, enabling players to patch LawBreakers and relish the gameplay.

Cliff Bleszinski Backs LawBreakers' Resurrection

LawBreakers was conceived by Boss Key Productions, led by Gears of War mastermind Cliff Bleszinski. Despite its unofficial nature, Bleszinski has been a vocal advocate for the revival of LawBreakers, extending full support to the RELB Project. Bleszinski had previously hinted at reviving LawBreakers himself and is now actively endorsing the fan-driven initiative, sharing the project's Discord server link on social media.

Following LawBreakers' failure, which led to the closure of Boss Key Productions and Bleszinski's public declaration of quitting game development, the RELB Project emerged. While LawBreakers still has a long way to go in its resurgence journey, the team and fans are resolute in resurrecting the game. The RELB Project is currently recruiting additional developers to support its cause. Recent public playtests have shown promising results, although this revamped LawBreakers version is undergoing testing with certain features and game modes disabled.
