Super Dragon Punch Force 3 is an innovative fighting game inspired by the fictional world of Boy Kills World, set to launch its open beta on April 26. Developed by the indie studio Talent Digital Art (TDA) in South Africa, the game aims to cater to both new players and seasoned fighting game enthusiasts with its mobile-first approach and technical complexity.

Game Rant had the opportunity to discuss the game with TDA, shedding light on its ties to Boy Kills World and various cultural influences. TDA's CEO Tanya Brits and creative director Judd Fitzjohn shared insights into the unique position and aspirations of being video game developers in South Africa.

Fostering Creativity

Brits highlighted TDA's intention to infuse elements of their heritage into the game, not solely for personal expression but also to distinguish themselves in the industry. Beyond this, Brits and Fitzjohn expressed a desire to showcase their cultural roots and local talents globally, all while recognizing the privilege of working in game development from Johannesburg. They emphasized the responsibility they feel towards inspiring the next generation of South African creatives, especially those who have never considered game design as a viable career path.

Cultural Representation

Drawing inspiration from Street Fighter 2's diverse character roster, TDA ensured that SDPF3 includes a character representing South Africa. The character SK, one of the game's eight initial characters, embodies South African culture within a universe that combines elements from Boy Kills World and original creations. SK stands out as a tribute to South African heritage, yet she is not the sole representation in the game.

Additionally, TDA integrated local music talent, provided by Sound Foundry, to craft a vibrant soundtrack for SDPF3. Fitzjohn hopes that these tunes will be infectiously catchy, following the tradition of memorable fighting game soundtracks. By incorporating these subtle yet meaningful nods to South African culture, the game not only resonates with local players but also introduces global audiences to an underexplored setting, potentially inspiring budding game designers.

Super Dragon Punch Force 3 will be available for Mobile and PC platforms starting April 26.
