  • The return of Breakneck in Season of the Wish
  • How to obtain the god roll for Breakneck

When about half of the content in Destiny 2 was removed with Beyond Light's launch in 2020, many weapons became unusable due to their Power level not being raised through infusion. This process, known as sunsetting, was not well-received by the Destiny 2 community, prompting Bungie to discontinue it. While some weapons remain unusable, others are gradually being reintroduced with new perks.

For a long time, Pinnacle weapons weren't reissued due to their infamous overpowered nature compared to other weapons. However, Bungie deviated from this trend in Season of the Wish by reintroducing Breakneck, albeit in a less potent form.

How to Get Breakneck

In Season 5 of Destiny 2, Breakneck, a Legendary Kinetic Auto Rifle, was obtained by completing a quest that involved extensive Gambit play. It initially came with a combination of Onslaught and Rampage, making it formidable before being nerfed in a later patch.

The reissued Breakneck now drops from Gambit matches. Alternatively, players can take Gambit Engrams to the Drifter and use Engram Focusing to acquire Breakneck. Whether players save up Engrams to exchange for Breakneck or continue playing Gambit to obtain it as a drop, there are multiple ways to pursue a god roll for this weapon.

What is the God Roll for Breakneck?

As with any weapon in Destiny 2, there are perk combinations that are more suitable for PvE or PvP. For PvE and PvP, the following perk combinations are preferable:

PvE god roll:

  • Subsistence
  • Onslaught

PvP god roll:

  • Keep Away
  • Onslaught

Irrespective of the activity, having Onslaught as a perk is essential for Breakneck. When combined with Subsistence in PvE, it reduces the need for reloading while increasing the rate of fire, thanks to Onslaught. This setup is effective for clearing weaker enemies, although these perks are less useful against bosses. Keep Away can enhance Breakneck's usefulness in the Crucible, provided players maintain medium-range distance from opponents.

While Breakneck may not surpass other auto rifles, particularly a god roll Rufus's Fury, it stands as a viable option for new players without better alternatives.
