Picking Sides: Yarra or Drakka?

Upon reaching the Gate of the Vanquished, players meet Jetakka, who prefers a peaceful resolution. Players then confront the choice of engaging directly with Yarra and Drakka or taking a side promptly. Eventually, players must select "Choose a side" to advance the narrative.

Despite attempts to mediate, Aloy's diplomacy fails, leaving players with the final decision of supporting Yarra or Drakka. Neither is depicted as superior, allowing players to select based on personal preference as the outcome remains inconsequential.

After Choosing: What Comes Next?

Post-selection, players align with their chosen leader to confront the opposing faction. The ensuing conflict culminates in the death of either Yarra or Drakka, with the survivor assuming leadership of the Tenakth's Desert Clan. Players receive the powerful Firestorm Warrior Bow and unlock the "Chose a Desert Commander" trophy.

The victor assigns an Errand later in the game, but the mission's content and dialogue remain consistent regardless of Yarra or Drakka's leadership. Therefore, the decision hinges solely on personal preference, with no substantial consequences.

Accessing the Gate of the Vanquished Quest

Before engaging in "The Gate of the Vanquished" and picking between Yarra and Drakka, players must complete two preceding side quests. Drakka's "Thirst for the Hunt" and Yarra's "The Wound in the Sand" introduce the characters and the Desert Clan's dynamics.

To start "Thirst for the Hunt," players meet Drakka in Arrowhand south of Scalding Spear. He requests Aloy's assistance in gathering machine parts to trade for water. After dispatching machines and returning to Jetakka, players learn of Yarra's need for help, initiating "The Wound in the Sand." Solving a simple puzzle in a mechanical room concludes the quest.

Players then witness Drakka challenging Yarra for leadership at Scalding Spear, leading to the decisive choice at the Gate of the Vanquished.
