Gray Zone Warfare throws players into the role of a PMC operative on the fictional island nation of Lamang, facing off against local guerrilla forces and rival companies. Progression in this extraction shooter heavily relies on interactions with NPC vendors who assign various tasks to players.

Among these tasks is First Recon, an early mission provided by Handshake. While not the most challenging quest in Gray Zone Warfare, it can be puzzling, especially for newcomers to the genre. Here's a rundown on how to successfully complete this assignment.

Mastering the First Recon Mission in Gray Zone Warfare

The quest system in Gray Zone Warfare varies based on the faction you align with. Each faction has established bases in different parts of the map, with First Recon designed to familiarize players with these locations.

Your objective is to locate and mark a gas station, a convenience store, and a ruined building. Handshake will provide grid coordinates for each site — to confirm proximity to a specific point of interest (POI), access your map and hover over your current grid square.

To depart from your base, exit through the main gates or summon a helicopter by selecting an available landing zone near the nearby town on your map. Upon landing, identify and approach the designated POIs within their respective grid squares. Refer to the maps for precise POI locations for every faction.

Once you've tagged all three sites, return to your base by clicking on your faction base's icon on the map. This action will prompt a helicopter to land at the nearest landing zone to collect you. Head to the landing zone and await the helicopter's arrival. Upon reaching home base, visit the Tasks tab in the Vendor menu to claim your well-deserved rewards.

As a reconnaissance mission, you won't engage in combat to complete this task. While you may encounter adversaries en route, you can opt to undertake this mission without carrying any equipment if you wish to safeguard your weaponry and gear in GZW.
