After numerous speculations and a significant leak in 2022, GTA 6 was officially unveiled in early December 2023. The announcement trailer mentioned a 2025 release target. However, Rockstar later clarified that this timeline pertains only to the game's versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, hinting that the PC release will follow later.

Potential Shift to 2026 Release

Merely three months after the announcement, doubts loom over this timeline, with Kotaku revealing that the game's progress is lagging behind, citing insider sources. This setback reportedly led Rockstar to require employees to return to offices by April 2024, a decision allegedly made in February. The concern primarily revolves around the feasibility of completing Grand Theft Auto 6 without risking a 2026 launch date if remote work continues.

Despite these challenges, the project has managed to stay on track since its reveal. The latest report suggests a revised target of spring 2025 for GTA 6 within Rockstar, though insiders lean towards a fall 2025 release, viewed as a contingency plan. The studio's reluctance to confirm a specific launch window beyond 2025 indicates uncertainty regarding the game's finalization.

The speculated spring 2025 deadline aligns with a fan theory proposing the game's completion by early the following year, based on a job listing in early March hinting at finalizing GTA 6 localization by Q1 2025.

Given the history of delays with previous 3D GTA titles, the possibility of GTA 6 following suit remains plausible. A potential 2026 launch delay could also postpone the PC version until at least 2027, mirroring the extended gaps seen with GTA 5 on PC compared to its console counterparts, which encountered multiple delays.
