FromSoftware is excited about the prospect of developing more Armored Core games, although fans will need to wait patiently for the next installment. This glimpse into the company's future plans was shared during a recent look back at Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon.

Initially launched on August 25, the latest addition to the enduring series of mecha games garnered critical acclaim and robust sales figures. Reviewers lauded Armored Core 6 for its engaging gameplay, extensive replay value, and remarkable technical advancements.

FromSoftware's Commitment to the Armored Core Series

Several months later, FromSoftware seems to have shifted its focus to the upcoming Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC set for release on June 21. However, the memory of Armored Core still resonates within the company. FromSoftware's President, Hidetaka Miyazaki, expressed a strong desire to continue the mecha franchise in a recent interview with IGN Japan.

Armored Core 7: A Future Possibility

Reflecting on the latest game, Miyazaki praised Armored Core 6 as a triumph but acknowledged areas for enhancement. Noting that perfection was not yet attained, Miyazaki emphasized his commitment to the future development of Armored Core titles. While this declaration will please fans, FromSoftware has not made any definitive plans for a new project.

The decade-long gap between Armored Core: Verdict Day and Fires of Rubicon marked the longest hiatus in the series' history. The absence of a new installment in the works suggests a potential extended delay before a new game materializes. Considering the trend of lengthier AAA game development cycles, the industry might witness a similar timeline for the next Armored Core release. Notably, Fires of Rubicon began pre-production around 2016, requiring approximately seven years before completion.

Despite the prolonged development period, Fires of Rubicon achieved remarkable success, selling about 2.8 million copies in its debut month, comparable to the latest Dark Souls installment. As the best-selling game in its release year, the triumph of Fires of Rubicon might motivate FromSoftware to embark on a new Armored Core project sooner, particularly with Miyazaki's enthusiasm for the concept.
