Fortnite boasts millions of global players, yet Steam Deck does not have official support for the game. Despite this, there are alternative methods to play Fortnite on Valve's console. Although the experience may not match that of other platforms, you can still derive enjoyment from your favorite game.
Playing Fortnite on Steam Deck
There are two approaches to playing Fortnite on Steam Deck: Xbox Cloud Gaming and NVIDIA GeForce Now. These services provide real-time streaming, contingent on a stable internet connection.
Xbox Cloud Gaming
To utilize Xbox Cloud Gaming, the following steps are essential:
- Enable Desktop mode on your Steam Deck by clicking the Steam button and selecting Desktop mode in the Power tab.
- Access the Discover Software Center.
- Navigate to Applications in the sidebar.
- Search for Microsoft Edge Beta.
- Install the browser.
- After installation, go to the desktop, right-click on the Microsoft Edge icon, and click Add to Steam.
- Log in to Steam, go to the Library, and click Add a Game. Add Microsoft Edge to Steam.
- Open the Applications menu and launch the Konsole. Enter the following command: flatpak –user override –filesystem=/run/udev:ro com.microsoft.Edge
- Return to Steam, right-click on the Microsoft Edge icon, go to Properties, and enter the following text: –window-size=1024,640 –force-device-scale-factor=1.25 –device-scale-factor=1.25 –kiosk “https://www.xbox.com/play
- Go back to Microsoft Edge properties and allow external controllers.
Once Microsoft Edge is configured, open it, visit the Xbox website, sign in with your Microsoft account, and finally, launch Fortnite.
NVIDIA GeForce Now
To play Fortnite on Steam Deck using NVIDIA GeForce Now, follow the aforementioned steps. In the Microsoft Edge settings, input the following: –window-size=1024,640 –force-device-scale-factor=1.25 –device-scale-factor=1.25 –kiosk “https://www.play.geforcenow.com”. After this, open Microsoft Edge, visit the website, launch Fortnite, and start enjoying the game.
