  • Players will have the option to customize their settings to control which emotes they see during gameplay.

Fortnite is implementing modifications to how 'confrontational' emotes are exhibited to fellow players. While direct communication with adversaries is not permitted in Fortnite, emotes have often been used as a means of provocation post eliminating a rival player. Some emotes such as 'Take the L' or 'Laugh It Up' might be perceived as negative by certain fans, potentially spoiling the gaming experience for some.

Emotes represent a significant cosmetic aspect of Fortnite, providing an array of lively animations to enhance a player's avatar. Apart from emotes, cosmetics include weapon skins, character skins, backpacks, pickaxes, and more. Speculations suggest that Fortnite might introduce a new cosmetic type alongside the existing ones. Epic Games continuously contemplates various alterations and additions to Fortnite, with emotes currently under scrutiny for enhancements.

Epic Games has announced forthcoming adjustments to the visibility of 'confrontational' emotes. In the update scheduled for April 23, certain emotes used by opponent players will no longer be visible. These 'confrontational' emotes will display as static poses without any accompanying sound when employed by adversaries. An option to modify this setting will be available in the 'social privacy' section of the main menu. By default, players will exclusively see the impacted emotes from party members, with alternative settings to view them from all players or none. Although numerous emotes exist, some periodically reappear in Fortnite's item shop. However, only specific emotes will be affected by the impending update, as outlined below.

Emotes Impacted by April 23 Update

  • Laugh It Up
  • Take The L
  • Whipcrack
  • Make It Plantain

The upcoming update will conceal merely four emotes from players, all categorized as confrontational. These alterations do not restrict players from utilizing these emotes individually. Emotes like 'Laugh It Up' and 'Take The L' can be interpreted as negative when directed at adversaries, prompting some players to prefer not encountering such emotes altogether. Scarce emotes in Fortnite such as 'It's Complicated' and 'Kiss the Cup' remain unaffected. The update is anticipated to roll out in patch v29.30 on April 23, coinciding with Billie Eilish's debut in Fortnite Festival.

Several adjustments have been made to the presentation of emotes and other cosmetics in Fortnite's store. However, this update specifically aims to revolutionize how emotes are perceived by players. By combatting toxicity, these modifications strive to shield players from negativity during gameplay. Fortunately, players opposed to this Fortnite alteration can effortlessly revert to the original emote display settings through a menu adjustment.
