Florida Joker Extends an Offer to Rockstar Games Regarding GTA 6

Highlights

  • Lawrence "Florida Joker" Sullivan shifts from legal threats to offering to voice the GTA 6 character resembling him and participate in promotional activities for the game.
  • Despite Sullivan's persistent attempts, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have yet to engage with his demands.
  • While Rockstar Games has faced likeness accusations before, legal action in this case is unlikely due to the character's deviation from Sullivan's tattooed appearance.

Lawrence “Florida Joker” Sullivan has once again reached out to Rockstar Games regarding the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6, but this time he appears to be abandoning his legal threats. Sullivan’s mugshot gained widespread attention in 2017 due to his facial tattoos resembling The Joker from DC Comics. Shortly after Rockstar released the first trailer for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 in December, a briefly featured character with similar tattoos led Sullivan to accuse Rockstar of appropriating his appearance.

Over the past few months, Lawrence Sullivan posted numerous videos on social media demanding compensation from Rockstar for what he perceives as a parody in Grand Theft Auto 6, eliciting responses from individuals like Red Dead Redemption 2 actor Roger Clark. As time passed, Sullivan escalated his financial demands, asserting that his notoriety has drawn attention to the game and threatening legal action if Rockstar failed to reach out to him promptly.

Earlier this week, Lawrence “Florida Joker” Sullivan posted another message to Rockstar Games on TikTok, this time retracting his threat of legal action against Grand Theft Auto 6. Instead, he reiterated his previous proposal to lend his voice to the supposed GTA 6 character based on him and requested a payment of approximately $50,000 to $100,000 for this. Additionally, he offered to engage in promotional activities upon the game's 2025 release, such as participating in meet-and-greets and autograph signings at events like Comic-Con.

Florida Joker's New Approach to GTA 6 Collaboration

As highlighted in his recent message, Rockstar Games and parent company Take-Two Interactive have not responded to his repeated communications and legal threats. This is not the first instance of Rockstar being accused of appropriating someone’s likeness for a Grand Theft Auto character, as Lindsay Lohan previously sued Rockstar over the GTA 5 character Lacey Jonas in 2014. The case was eventually dropped in 2018, and a similar outcome is probable in the Florida Joker's scenario due to the dissimilarity between the GTA 6 NPC and his tattooed likeness.

Evidently, Sullivan seems cognizant of this, choosing to pivot from his earlier legal threats against Rockstar and instead proposing to voice the Grand Theft Auto 6 character resembling him, as well as contribute to the game's promotional efforts at launch. Whether Rockstar will respond to this new approach remains uncertain, but the Florida Joker's saga with Grand Theft Auto 6 has been almost as extraordinary and unconventional as the events within the GTA games.
