While Final Fantasy 16 offers a plethora of side quests, the Notorious Mark Hunts truly set it apart. These hunts task players with vanquishing powerful fiends wreaking havoc in Valisthea, adding depth to the gaming experience.

The base game features 32 Notorious Marks, with additional challenges introduced in the Rising Tide expansion. The new hunts are integrated into DLC side quests, such as the Lost in the Woods mission, where players must eliminate Thalaos, a monstrous creature rewarding them with the rare Aqueous Membrane.

Initiating the Lost in the Woods Quest

To commence the Lost in the Woods quest, players must converse with Ayrik, a young character located in Haven's center. After completing The Rising Tide's main storyline and several DLC side quests, players venture to the Swiftrun region, assist an injured hunter, and confront the Archelon. Subsequently, a revealing cutscene directs players towards the Riversmeet area, where the targeted beast lurks.

Locating and Defeating Thalaos (Aqueous Membrane Location)

In the Sunken Ruins, north of the Riversmeet Obelisk, Thalaos awaits alongside fallen foes. Overpowering Thalaos involves utilizing Leviathan's Serpent's Cry ability and relentlessly attacking with Tidal Torrent until it staggers. Employing all six Eikonic Abilities to deplete half of its health, players repeat the process until victory. Dodge Thalaos' Water Wall attack by evading with the R1 button and maneuvering behind the creature.

Lost in the Woods Rewards

Upon Thalaos' defeat, players acquire two Aqueous Membrane pieces, vital for crafting the Tonberry Knife. Returning to Haven for quest completion not only yields experience but also grants a precious Orichalcum, another rare crafting component in Final Fantasy 16.
