Highlights

  • Xbox Series X quality mode in Fallout 4 is malfunctioning, remaining stuck in performance mode.
  • PS5 users note significant graphic enhancements in quality mode compared to Xbox, offering a basis for comparison.
  • PS Plus Collection members on PS5 experience a prompt to repurchase Fallout 4, though Bethesda is actively resolving the issue.

Reports are surfacing from Xbox users indicating that the new quality mode in Fallout 4 is experiencing technical issues. The community has long awaited Bethesda's release of the next-gen update for Fallout 4 on Xbox Series X/S and PS5. The update finally launched on April 25, but not without encountering several notable problems.

The update for Fallout 4 includes three fresh quests that reward players with unique weapons, Halloween-themed settlement decorations, an Enclave Colonel uniform, and Enclave-themed workshop items. Additionally, players can access a new weapon and armor bundle featuring two Power Armors, the Heavy Incinerator, Tesla Cannon, alongside Enclave armor and weapon skins.

Among the anticipated changes in the update were the introduction of performance and quality modes to Fallout 4 on PS5 and Xbox Series X. While performance mode is expected to offer standard settings at a targeted 60 FPS in 4K resolution, quality mode should display in 4K resolution with ultra settings at 30 or 40 FPS, depending on the display. However, Xbox users are reporting a bug in the quality mode, preventing it from functioning correctly.

Quality Mode Bug Affects Xbox Players

Players should be able to switch to quality mode in the Fallout 4 settings menu by toggling off performance mode. Regrettably, this action currently has no effect on Xbox, leaving the game stuck in performance mode regardless of the selected option. PS5 users have noted a noticeable enhancement in graphics with quality mode, providing a clear contrast for Xbox players to assess.

PlayStation users have also faced challenges with the RPG's next-gen update. Those who acquired Fallout 4 through the PS Plus Collection can no longer access the game on PS5. Despite having the PS4 version in their libraries, they are prompted to repurchase the game to play. Bethesda is actively working on a solution for this issue, aiming to rectify the situation promptly.

While the Fallout 4 update has successfully addressed several long-standing bugs, it has introduced new problems. Numerous Fallout 4 mods are incompatible with the updated version of the game, including the Fallout 4 Script Extender essential for many other mods to operate. A similar scenario unfolded during the launch of the Skyrim Anniversary Edition, but dedicated fans swiftly resolved the issues. Hopefully, the community will find solutions for Fallout 4 as well.
