Highlights

  • Learn about the map features and navigation tools in The Planet Crafter
  • Explore key starting locations and their significance in the game
  • Discover various biomes and their distinct characteristics

In contrast to many other independent survival games, The Planet Crafter offers a consistent main map layout across all playthroughs. This means that resource caves and shipwrecks can always be found in the same spots regardless of how many times you start a new game.

Understanding the map and biomes of The Planet Crafter is crucial for players to excel in the game. This guide presents a comprehensive overview of the map in the completed 1.0 version, including details on different biomes and what players can expect from each.

Exploring the Map

The game provides an in-game map accessible once players acquire specific blueprints. While the map aids navigation, it doesn't reveal the complete picture. Here are some key points to enhance your map experience:

  • GPS Satellites have a hierarchy; launching a T4 GPS Satellite eliminates the need for earlier versions for maximum zoom.
  • Blueprint Microchips unlock new blueprints in groups, with random selection within each tier.
  • The map centers on the player's location but can be moved using arrow buttons.

Understanding Coordinates

Players can view their coordinates at the lower-left corner of the HUD, indicating north-south, vertical, and east-west positions. Negative values signify positions beyond the map's zero point, which historically marked the southeast corner.

Starting Valley

Opting for the standard starting location places players in the Starting Valley, offering access to early-game resources. However, flooding during the Lakes phase prompts building bases on the Central Plateau to the north.

The valley provides access to the Steep Hill, Cracked Spires, and eventually the Waterfall as the game progresses.

Central Plateau

Situated north of the map's center, the Central Plateau offers proximity to various biomes and serves as a secure base location throughout the game.

Surrounding the Central Plateau are the Iridium Mine, Dunes Desert, Labyrinth Canyons, Starting Valley, and Aluminum Hills.

Steep Hill

Located southwest of the Starting Valley, the Steep Hill hosts a large shipwreck with abundant salvage opportunities. An entrance leads to the osmium cave, connecting to the Sulfur Fields and Zeolite Cave.

Iridium Mine

Northwest of the Starting Valley and southwest of the Central Plateau, the Iridium Mine is recognizable by sand falls above its entrance. Serving as a prime source of iridium and aluminum, the mine features multiple openings to different biomes.

The guide continues to detail each significant location within The Planet Crafter, offering players insights into the diverse terrain and valuable resources available throughout the game.
