Highlights

  • Understanding the Requirements
  • Acquiring the Necessary Parts
  • Completing the Quest and Rewards

Mechanic's Gunsmith quests in Escape From Tarkov provide an opportunity for players to engage in weapon customization to fulfill the precise requirements outlined by Mechanic's clients. While seemingly straightforward, modifying firearms to meet specific standards demands a good understanding of the game and may take longer depending on available resources.

Below is a comprehensive guide to the initial Gunsmith quest in Escape From Tarkov.

The Challenge: Gunsmith 1

This task involves customizing an MP-133 shotgun to meet specific criteria:

  • 60 Durability
  • 850 Recoil (or less)
  • Size of at most 4 cells
  • Must have an extended magazine
  • Must have any tactical device (flashlight or laser module)
  • 47 Ergonomics or greater

It is advisable to commence Gunsmith quests after unlocking the Workbench and the Flea Market. The former provides access to the weapon modding screen, while the latter offers access to the entire player-driven economy, making it easier to obtain the necessary attachments. Nevertheless, Gunsmith 1 can be accomplished using aftermarket parts from LL1 traders.

In the 0.14.0 update, the required parts to customize an MP-133 for Gunsmith 1 were revised. A muzzle brake is no longer necessary due to the reduced recoil of the weapon. Players may come across an MP-133 with some attachments already installed from a random Scav. However, when acquiring or purchasing an MP-133, ensure its durability is at least 60.

If Jaeger has been unlocked, players can purchase the required shotguns from his store, provided they are in stock. Alternatively, a modded MP-133 can be obtained from Mechanic by trading two Elite Pliers and a screwdriver. However, certain parts need to be replaced and others removed to meet the size and Ergo requirements. This option is beneficial for players uninterested in using the shotgun and simply seeking to complete the quest.

Successful completion of this quest yields the standard rewards of money, XP, and trader reputation. Additionally, players receive makeshift .50 caliber shotgun slugs, a pack of screws and bolts, and the opportunity to purchase the AR-15 Windham Weaponry Rail Gas Block from Mechanic.
