eBay's Auction of 151 Rare Pokemon Cards Starting at $1.51

eBay is embracing its popularity within the Pokemon community with Catch 151, an exclusive event where 151 cards from various editions of the beloved TCG will be up for auction. Bidding for each card will commence at $1.51. The auction will kick off at 12:01 am ET on February 27 and run for 24 hours, coinciding with the festivities of Pokemon Day 2024.

While the full list of cards for Catch 151 is yet to be disclosed, eBay has teased about 20 cards that will be featured, including sought-after holo versions of 1st Edition Venusaur, Blastoise, and Charizard, all in mint condition.

Among the highlights are five Pikachu cards, notably one autographed by Mitsuhiro Arita, an original Pokemon TCG artist. Other Pikachu cards include a pristine 1998 Ooyama's Pikachu valued at around $800, and the rare 2020 Special Delivery Pikachu. The Pikachu Van Gogh card will also be a standout piece at the auction.

Gene Cook, eBay's Global Collectibles VP, shared that searches for 'Pokemon 151' on the platform surged by nearly 11,000% in January compared to the previous year, possibly inspiring the event's name. This trend was likely fueled by the release of the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet 151 set in September 2023, quickly becoming a sought-after collection among Pokemon card enthusiasts.
