Highlights

  • Players are urging Bungie to add facial hair customization to Destiny 2.
  • Recent updates allowed for some character customization improvements, but facial hair options remain absent.
  • The community hopes for future updates to address the long-standing request for beards and other facial hair choices.

Throughout its evolution, Destiny 2 has continuously introduced enhancements to empower players with more character personalization options. However, a significant aspect of character customization, namely facial hair, has been a persistent omission that has left dedicated players wanting. Following recent updates that tackled established concerns regarding character appearance in Destiny 2, the community has reignited its plea for the inclusion of beards.

Destiny 2 has become synonymous with fostering creativity in player attire and armor, a trend that has only amplified since the implementation of armor customization via the Universal Armor Ornament system by Bungie. Nonetheless, this freedom had long been confined to clothing choices. Until a recent breakthrough in April 2024 marked by the launch of Destiny 2 Into the Light, players were unable to modify their characters' facial features and hair post-creation. This limitation even affected players transitioning from the original game to Destiny 2 in 2017 while importing their existing characters, resulting in some players maintaining the same facial appearance for nearly a decade.

This narrative took a turn in April 2024 with the release of Destiny 2 Into the Light, which introduced a partial solution allowing players to readjust their characters' facial traits and hairstyles. Although this update marked a resolution to one of the community's long-standing grievances, another equally ancient concern persists: the absence of facial hair options in the range of character customizations offered by Destiny 2. User SnooChocolates3167 from the DestinyFashion Reddit community once again highlighted the longstanding request for beards and other facial hair choices that has endured for almost a decade.

Destiny 2 Continues to Lack Facial Hair Customization Options Despite Community Appeals

In a post on DestinyFashion, SnooChocolates3167 referenced a 2020 plea by user KoalaTeaGuy on the official Destiny 2 subreddit, which featured a screenshot from a crucial moment in Destiny 2: Forsaken. The scene depicted the player's character facing Awoken Prince Uldren Sov, a key figure in the Forsaken storyline, preparing to avenge the death of Hunter Vanguard Cayde-6. In this scene, the character's helmet was removed, and KoalaTeaGuy edited the image to include a beard on the character's face, emphasizing the potential impact of this feature.

The DestinyFashion community echoed SnooChocolates3167's sentiments, with some expressing disappointment over the absence of facial hair choices and limited head customizations in general. While some acknowledged that most Destiny 2 players tend to keep their helmets on, diminishing the relevance of facial customization, others remained optimistic, suggesting that future updates might expand customization options, especially considering that Into the Light enabled players to modify their appearance and character names.

Despite its renowned character customization capabilities, Destiny 2 still has room for improvement compared to its competitors. Hopefully, forthcoming updates like The Final Shape or other updates will bridge the existing gaps and meet the desires of the player base.
