Death Stranding is set to receive a special limited-edition controller as it gears up for release on Apple's iPhone 15 Pro. Hideo Kojima’s 2019 action title garnered praise for its eerie, dystopian setting, profound themes of connection and isolation, and an all-star cast featuring Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen. Following its original launch on the PS4, Death Stranding: Director's Cut made its way to the PlayStation 5 in 2021, offering enhanced visuals and an array of new gameplay elements.

Originally an exclusive title for the PS4, Death Stranding was later ported to PC by 505 Games in 2020. The enhanced Death Stranding: Director’s Cut arrived on the PS5 in March 2022, and in June, Hideo Kojima announced its upcoming release on Apple platforms, including the iPhone 15 Pro, which was initially scheduled for 2023 but was later delayed to January 30 to allow for final preparations by 505 Games.

Leading up to the launch of Death Stranding: Director’s Cut on the iPhone 15 Pro, Backbone, a mobile gaming controller manufacturer, is introducing a limited-edition Backbone One controller inspired by the game. This collaboration marks Backbone's first venture into game-specific partnerships, featuring a distinctive transparent orange-yellow design with Backbone and Kojima Productions logos on the front and the Death Stranding logo on the back.

The Backbone One Death Stranding Limited Edition controllers will be available for purchase from January 30 at 9 AM Pacific Time (or 12 PM Eastern). In addition to the controller, buyers will receive a complimentary iOS game code for Death Stranding: Director’s Cut, compatible with all M-series chip-powered Apple devices. However, due to its exclusive compatibility with USB-C iPhones, the new controller is specifically designed for the iPhone 15 Pro series.

While Backbone previously collaborated with PlayStation to produce a PS5 DualSense-themed iOS mobile controller in 2022, this Death Stranding controller marks their first game-specific partnership. As the release of Death Stranding: Director’s Cut approaches for mobile platforms, this limited-edition controller offers gamers a stylish and immersive way to experience the game on the iPhone 15 Pro.
