Highlights

  • The Silent Hill 2 remake's combat trailer faced backlash for its stiff animations, lack of weapon impact, and underwhelming sound effects.
  • Bloober Team's president clarified that Konami is accountable for the marketing and trailer, which does not capture the essence of the game.
  • Despite the negative feedback, the president remains optimistic about gamers' response to actual gameplay.

The president of Bloober Team, the Polish developer behind the highly anticipated Silent Hill 2 remake, has stated that the recent combat trailer was handled by Konami. The video debuted during the January 31 PlayStation State of Play showcase and served as the first tangible gameplay footage of the Silent Hill 2 remake that fans have been eagerly anticipating.

Unfortunately, the Silent Hill 2 remake's “Combat Reveal Trailer” received significant criticism. Viewers expressed concerns about the stiff animations, lack of impactful weapon strikes, and unsatisfactory sound effects. The trailer also raised worries about the state of the remake, overshadowing the positive atmosphere it conveyed to some fans.

Bloober Team President Piotr Babieno addressed the issue in a conversation with a Polish YouTube channel inwestorzy.tv. Babieno emphasized that Konami is wholly responsible for the marketing and, consequently, the trailer and its negative reception. He stressed that the trailer fails to capture the true essence of Silent Hill 2, both in its original 2001 release and in the upcoming remake by Bloober Team.

Concerns Arise from Silent Hill 2 Remake's Combat Trailer

Babieno remains confident that gamers will react differently when they witness the actual gameplay of the Silent Hill 2 remake, despite the doubts stemming from the translated article. He assured fans that the studio is leveraging the full potential of Unreal 5 for the game's graphics. Despite the predominantly negative response to the recent trailer, many people still hold anticipation for the upcoming remake.

While Konami aims to revive the Silent Hill franchise after over a decade, recent releases have left fans skeptical. Silent Hill: Ascension, which premiered in October 2023, and Silent Hill: The Short Message both received negative reviews, contributing to waning expectations for the Silent Hill 2 remake.
