Baldur's Gate 3 features a wide array of weapons that can be found during your adventures, offering unique advantages such as enhanced buffs and spell capabilities.

Among the notable Halberds in the game, the Light of Creation stands out for its exceptional power. However, acquiring this weapon involves engaging in a significant encounter within the depths of the Underdark, which may be easily overlooked. Understanding how to locate this encounter and obtain the Light of Creation can prove immensely valuable.

Acquiring the Light of Creation in Baldur's Gate 3

To obtain the Light of Creation in Baldur's Gate 3, you must defeat an Automaton named Bernard in combat and claim the weapon from his remains. Bernard can be located within the Arcane Tower in the Underdark, situated on its upper level. However, reaching him requires navigating through various threats and puzzles.

The Arcane Tower is nestled in the heart of the Underdark, a realm filled with mysteries that are easily overlooked if you are not observant or are rushing through the area. For precise directions on the map, refer to the image below.

Accessing the Arcane Tower involves evading the surrounding Arcane Turrets. You can achieve this by sneaking past them with a character possessing high mobility (such as Wood Elves, Barbarians, or Monks) or by using a character capable of multiple Dash actions in one turn (such as Rogues employing Cunning Action - Thieves can Action Dash and then Bonus Cunning Action Dash twice).

Alternatively, you can attempt to deactivate the Arcane Turrets through lightning-based damage. While resistant to most forms of damage, the turrets are vulnerable to Lightning Damage. Spells like Chain Lightning, Call Lightning, or weapons like Arrows of Lightning can effectively neutralize them.

Upon entering the Arcane Tower, you must descend to the ground level. This can be accomplished by leaping off the mushrooms in the initial chamber or using Feather Fall from the balcony. Subsequently, locate the luminous tree with Sussur Blooms. Obtain one of these blooms, which temporarily inhibits spellcasting. Proceed to the tower's entrance and unlock it using a character proficient in Dexterity with Thieves Tools.

Inside the tower, use the Sussur Bloom to energize the structure by placing it in the power device and combining them. This action deactivates the Arcane Turrets and powers up the tower.

With the elevator now operational, ascend through the levels using the controls until you reach the top floor. Here, you will face off against Bernard, who presents a poetic riddle. Answering correctly, based on information from previous tower levels, may avoid combat. However, engaging in battle with Bernard and other Automatons is necessary to secure the Light of Creation.

Following the defeat of Bernard, loot his body to acquire the Light of Creation and either add it to your inventory or equip it to a companion.

Unleashing the Full Potential of Light of Creation and Its Skills

Skills and Enhancements of Light of Creation

  • Inflicts 1d10+1 Slashing damage and an extra 1d6 Lightning damage
  • Overcharge: Risk of stunning the wielder, except for constructs

Optimal Classes to maximize the Halberd's potential include Paladins, Fighters, or Barbarians, depending on personal combat style. These classes excel in frontline combat, dealing substantial damage while absorbing hits. Additionally, they synergize well with the Great Weapon Master Feat, allowing for increased Damage Rolls at the cost of Accuracy.

Pairing the Great Weapon Master with Sentinel and Polearm Master Feats enhances combat effectiveness. The halberd's reach benefits from these Feats, enabling Opportunity Attacks on enemies entering or attacking within your range. By combining these abilities, you can trigger multiple Opportunity Attacks each turn, augmenting damage with the Lightning Damage and base damage from the Light of Creation.

Despite its combat advantages, the Light of Creation poses a risk with its Overcharge effect, potentially stunning the wielder. This drawback can be mitigated by equipping Automaton's Gloves, available for purchase from Barcus Wroot at Last Light Inn.
