Baldur’s Gate 3 offers a rich tapestry of quests where players can embark on adventures, make choices, and engage in battles for varied rewards. Often, players must align with factions and fight on behalf of certain characters.

In the depths of the Underdark, players encounter the Myconid, seeking vengeance against the Duergars who have decimated their community. Players can take on a mission to assist the Myconid in exchange for a substantial reward.

Locating the Duergar Stronghold

Upon entering the Underdark, the initial area to explore is the Decrepit Village, situated by the shore. Here, players will encounter a group of Duergar led by Gekh Coal, known for their slave trading operations. The Duergar are on a hunt for an escaped slave named Thulla, who stole a significant item from them.

Players should approach Gekh Coal cautiously, avoiding confrontation initially. If players bear a specific mark, showing it can pacify Gekh. They can agree to search for Thulla, even if their intentions are not aligned with the Duergar's cause.

Uncovering Thulla and the Myconid Stronghold

To locate Thulla, a deep gnome slave, players must head north from the Decrepit Village. Along the path, signs of conflict between Duergar and Myconid become evident. Eventually, players will reach the Myconid colony, initially met with suspicion due to their tumultuous history with the Duergar. Convincing the Myconid to grant entry leads players to meet their leader, Sovereign Spaw. Establishing a waypoint for future travels, players receive a mission from Spaw to eradicate the Duergar threat in exchange for a valuable reward.

Besides the quest, players are equipped with Haste Spore Grenades by Spaw, enhancing combat capabilities. Encountering Thulla, players can choose to heal her immediately or after dealing with the Duergar.

Engaging in Duergar Confrontation

Accepting Spaw's task, players can fast-travel to the designated waypoint for the showdown. Strategic positioning is crucial, with a hierarchy of Duergar enemies to tackle, starting with Gekh Coal, who can revive fallen allies. Players must also contend with ranged attackers like Holvik and close combat specialists like Lurgan and Novie Garmor.

Employing area-of-effect spells like Lightning Bolt or Fireball is advisable to manage multiple foes efficiently. Prioritizing high-ground targets improves accuracy, especially when aiming to eliminate Gekh Coal swiftly. Tactics like Hold Person can immobilize enemies, granting players a tactical advantage.

Players must be wary of environmental hazards like heights and water bodies during the battle, utilizing terrain to their advantage. After defeating the Duergar, players can loot valuable items from their bodies, including the Duergar Antidote and various scrolls and weapons.

Reaping the Rewards from Spaw

Following the victory, players return to Spaw for a rewarding outcome. While Spaw requests further Duergar eliminations, players receive beneficial items like Rapport Spores and Bliss Spores, aiding them until their next rest. Exploring a hidden cave unlocked by Spaw reveals a trove of valuable loot, expanding the player's inventory significantly.

Assisting Thulla with the Antidote

After acquiring the Duergar Antidote from Gekh Coal, players can cure Thulla of her poisoning, earning her gratitude. Thulla, seeking aid for her captive kin, offers players a crucial item, setting the stage for further adventures.

Baldur’s Gate 3 promises a dynamic journey of choices and consequences, shaping the player's path in a world filled with intrigue and danger.
