Asus has unveiled the ROG NUC, a compact gaming PC, at CES 2024 in Las Vegas. This marks the first release in the new NUC product line, which has been taken over by Asus from Intel.

The NUC, which stands for 'Next Unit of Computing,' began as Intel's product line, evolving over ten generations to become a line of compact, self-contained computers capable of being concealed behind a TV. Over time, it has become upgradable and powerful enough to handle modern AAA game titles. With the ROG NUC, Asus continues this trend, drawing on its experience in designing small form factor gaming devices.

According to Engadget, the ROG NUC is available in two configurations. The first includes an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPU, while the more powerful model features a Core Ultra 9 processor and an RTX 4070 GPU. Both models are housed in the same 2.5-liter chassis weighing no more than 800 grams. The chassis also boasts a tool-less design, providing users with easy access to almost all the components inside whenever necessary.

Additional specifications include dual-channel DDR5 memory support with a maximum capacity of 64GB, three PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 slots, and a variety of I/O ports, including a single Thunderbolt 4 port supporting DisplayPort 2.1. Asus claims the ROG NUC can support up to four 4K displays, making it an attractive option for users planning a multi-monitor setup.

The ROG NUC's sleek angular design easily identifies it as a gaming device. The device can be positioned horizontally or vertically using the included stand, offering users flexibility in setup. It can also be used as a living room gaming device, as Asus suggests it pairs well with the ROG Raikiri Pro wireless controller.

Given its power and relatively small size, the Asus ROG NUC has the potential to replace consoles for some users. Asus has not disclosed pricing or availability information for the ROG NUC. However, considering the premium ROG branding, it is anticipated to be positioned at a higher price point.
