  • A fan's plan to use 4,000 inactive Xbox 360 codes for a fan video.
  • The purchased codes were likely never activated for use.
  • Remedy Entertainment hints at a bright future for the Alan Wake franchise with a well-received sequel.

An ardent admirer of Alan Wake has purchased 4,000 digital Xbox 360 codes for the 2010 game, only to find out they are unusable. The original Alan Wake was launched in 2010 and has gradually grown into a beloved Xbox 360 classic. The eerie tale of novelist Alan Wake being tormented by his own written words coming to life in the fictional town of Bright Falls in the Pacific Northwest has captivated fans with its distinct and somber ambiance.

Thirteen years later, followers of Remedy Entertainment and Alan Wake finally got what they had been waiting for – the much-anticipated sequel. In October, Alan Wake 2 hit the shelves to outstanding reviews, ranking among the top games of 2023 alongside Baldur's Gate 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Introducing a new character, Saga Anderson, alongside Alan, Alan Wake 2 allowed new players to become familiar with the intricate storyline of Alan's universe. Players could switch between Saga's FBI agent adventures in Bright Falls and Alan's perilous journey through The Dark Place. The sequel delved deeper into survival horror, employing gameplay and level design reminiscent of Resident Evil, in contrast to its predecessor's more action-packed third-person shooting mechanics.

One fervent Alan Wake enthusiast adores the franchise so much that she acquired thousands of copies of the original 2010 game, which she cannot utilize. In an interview with PCGamesN, a fan named Alisa shared that she bought 4,000 Alan Wake promo cards from 2010 on eBay for $240, each containing a code for the digital Xbox 360 version of the game. After attempting to redeem several codes, Alisa was disheartened to discover that none of them allowed her to download Alan Wake, rendering the entire purchase futile.

All 4,000 Alan Wake Codes Are Inactive

Upon contacting Microsoft support, Alisa found out that these promo cards, over a decade old, originating from Finland, the home base of Alan Wake developer Remedy Entertainment, were probably never activated for use in the first place. While some may consider this purchase a failure, Alisa has alternative plans for these Alan Wake code cards. In the course of creating an Alan Wake 2 fan video, she intends to utilize her surplus of Alan Wake promo cards as props for a scene. This seems fitting, as many of Alan Wake's surreal visuals depict numerous pages and papers either swirling around or plastered on surfaces. Alisa also expressed her desire to decorate one of her walls with the promo cards.

While Alisa ponders other uses for the 4,000 inactive Alan Wake Xbox 360 codes, Remedy Entertainment is hard at work developing the first DLC for Alan Wake 2, titled Night Springs. Although details about the story DLC are scarce at the moment, more information may be revealed at this year's upcoming Summer Game Fest scheduled for June 7.
